Taught by Amy Clark Rine

This is a one day workshop for students ages 16 and up: May 15 from 6:30-9:30PM. Class size: 4 min, 15 max.

In this class you will learn about basic hand sewing techniques that allow you to quickly make repairs and do small projects. Even if you have a sewing machine, there are times when hand sewing is better. Learn about hand sewed stitches, how to sew them, and which technique works best for different purposes.  Students will learn the following hand stitches: Basting stitch, Backstitch, Chain stitch, Blanket stitch, and Button stitch. Students will also create a small stitch sampler or pillow.

This course requires a $3 supply fee and is included in the price of the class. The supply fee includes: 2 pieces of 8”x8” fabric, 2 sewing needles, and 1 spool of thread. Students are encouraged to bring an item which they would like to either mend or embellish using the sewing skills learned in the workshop.

In this hand sewing class for beginners Amy will teach students the basics needed to mend and upscale favorite items of clothing. Students will learn how to join two pieces of fabric using a strong, reliable stitch. Afterward, students will learn 3 additional stitches they can use for embellishment and even how to incorporate beads or sequins into their embellished stitches. Students will leave the class having created a sampler, and if time permits they will have the opportunity to practice their skills on a piece of clothing they brought with them from home.
