Beginning Calligraphy - Wednesdays PM

This class meets for 8 consecutive weeks, maximum 15 students, minimum 4. Ages 18 and up.

24 hours of instruction, $8.29/hr

Wednesdays** at 6:30-9:30 pm, First class is 5/23/19

**First two classes will be held on Thursdays: 5/23 & 5/30, all other following classes will meet on Wednesdays.

Calligraphy is a fun creative outlet that can allow you to create custom cards for friends and family and a way to take a break from work.

This course has a $50 supply fee paid to the instructor on the first day of class. The supply fee includes: 2 pads of different types of Calligraphy paper, 1 double ended nib holder, 1 oblique nib holder, 3 nibs, black, white, and gold ink, tube of gauche, bottle and dropper (to make their own ink), pencil, gum eraser, practice workbook.

Calligraphy Course Syllabus

Week 1: Start out by learning the basics of nibs, pen holders, paper and ink. Practice upstrokes and downstrokes and how to hold the calligraphy pen. Whether you are right handed or left handed there is a way to hold the pen that is different than a typical pencil or pen.

Week 2: We will move into letterforms and the beginning of creating your own writing style of calligraphy while practicing the alphabet starting with lowercase.

Week 3: Continuing writing letterforms moving onto uppercase

Week 4: Moving from the alphabet we will start practicing putting words together and begin working on flourishing

Week 5: Learning more about flourishing and simple artistic techniques. Learn about digitizing artwork and forming sentences.

Week 6: Learn how to make your own ink from gauche and water so you can create your own colors, explore different techniques with water color, gold ink, and other various ink types. A short explanation of brush pens.

Weeks 7 & 8: The course will end with the student writing and designing the layout of their own quote.

Refund / Class credit policy: You may request a refund up to the second scheduled class and before the third class meets. Notify the instructor or send an email. You may choose a refund or a credit toward another class. There is a $20 fee for refunds.
